Haygrove Heaven & Earth Farms are located in the picturesque Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and were established in 2002  to provide raspberries to premium northern Hemisphere customers, at their request, as well as to develop the premium local market. The 65 hectares farm has been a great success for both. The valley is the latest site in SA for apples, renowned for its cool summer, and lies just outside the coastal town of Hermanus. 

Haygrove Eden Farm is located along South Africa’s garden route in the gentle dairy growing and nursery stock growing area of George, about 350 km from the Hermanus site. The farm was purchased in 2010 to spread weather and drought risk and to meet growing berry demand. In addition to raspberries and blueberries, Eden also focuses on growing strawberries all year round, and more recently strawberry export. 

Haygrove Small Beginnings. In 2012, Haygrove built its own tissue culture laboratory at Eden in order to improve the quality and consistency of its plants, which had been a serious problem. The business, which can produce 1.5 million plants a year is run by our partner Brenda Vermaak.

Haygrove Amajuba, 75% Haygrove and 25% the Charlestown Community and the South African National Empowerment Fund, was established in 2014 but took over a failed project in a small town of >90% unemployment. We have taken it from just 7 staff to a peak season of 300. The site is located at high elevation, north of the Drakensberg mountains near the town of Volksrust. Cold winters usefully give more chill than our other sites and warm summers provide the ideal microclimate for sweet-eating blackberries and early spring raspberries.
