Crops We Grow

Strawberries

We grow varieties drawn from around the world, including several from one of the premier world sources Driscoll’s. Conventionally grown varieties include Driscoll's Lusa, Centenary and Sonata; and organically Serena, Scarlet, Centenary & Fenella. Strawberries grown in the UK and South Africa supply their leading domestic retailers.

Raspberries

Over the last several years we have focused on becoming experts at raspberry growing in substrate. We are perhaps half way there. Across the UK, South Africa and Portugal, Haygrove exclusively grows Driscoll’s raspberry varieties developed in California; predominantly Maravilla which as a single variety has changed global appreciation of this most healthy food.

Cherries

Haygrove grows 15 varieties through the season including Merchant, Hertford, Earlise, Lapins, Karina, Kordia, Regina, Sweetheart and Penny. These are sold mainly to UK supermarkets. We are also newly planting 20ha in Portugal and have a partnership in South Africa, which as in the case of raspberries is with a highly technical grower.

Blueberries

We are expanding blueberries rapidly in South Africa, have inherited a mass of trials in Portugal, and have been testing for variety breakthroughs in the UK for over 10 years with modest commercial plantings there. As with raspberries, we are determined to become expert growers in substrate. Blueberries are becoming a bigger crop for Haygrove.

Blackberries

Haygrove grows conventional blackberries of mainly the variety Driscoll’s Victoria. This variety is a step change in flavour from all competitors and almost all previous varieties, which is likely to herald huge growth in demand for this dark healthy berry. It is an exciting time. We are currently growing it in all our regions including 3ha in glass and look forward to trying to master it technically.
